38th Year Art Festival Inauguration

Kartik Fine Arts opened its 38th Year Art Festival on December 1, 2012. Hon’ble Justice Sri V. Ramasubramanian, Judge, Madras High Court inaugurated the festival held at Narada Gana Sabha Hall, in association with Sri P. Obul Reddy and P. Gnanambal Trust (Sponsored by Sri P Vijayakumar Reddy and Smt. Preetha Reddy), Rajalakshmi Institutions and The India Cements Ltd.



Festival inaugurations are a spectacle with the participation and a variety of speeches by dignitaries from many fields! KFA inauguration did have this variety.


Chairman, L Sabaretnam delivered a warm introductory speech, encapsulating the activities of Kartik Fine Arts that includes an exclusive programme featuring Tamil Compositions, in Anna Nagar. He also touched briefly upon the Chief Guest, Sri Ramasubramanian’s landmark judgments and detailed the special aspects of the dignitaries on stage, while thanking them.


The programme went ahead with the presenting of awards. Sri Ramasubramanian conferred the titles, Isai Peroli on the talented vocalist, Sikkil C Gurucharan and Nadanamamani on the multi faceted dancer Dr Jyotsana Jagannathan. The Kartik Rajagopal Golden Jubilee Committee Award for the Best Organizer was presented to Sri S Krishnamurthy, Treasurer, Mylapore Academy and the Smt. D K Pattammal Award of Excellence (Instituted by Dr.Nithyasri Mahadevan) to Kumari Sriranjani Santhanagoplan, amidst a lot of cheers from the huge audience. Sriranjani earlier sang the invocation piece, and this is a tradition at Kartik!


Sri Ramasubramanain in his felicitation speech, highlighted the efforts put in by the artistes to rise up to the awardee status. He, being a man in the legal field, made references to the terms Kacheri and sabha, that were/are used in both the cultural world and the court. He thus reiterated his ties with the cultural world!


The sponsor, Dr. Preetha Reddy, MD, Appollo Hospitals Enterprises Limited, also a Kalakshetra alumnus, said that she felt honoured to be associated with the cultural organisations and artistes and do their bit for its development.


Kalaimamani Smt E Gayathri, Director, Music Colleges, Govt. Of Tamil Nadu, recalled that she was a recipient of the ”Isai Peroli” award herself, and was fortunate to have got the honour from Smt. M S Subbulakshmi. And added that she could obviously sense, how the day's awardees would feel like! She profusely thanked Sri Sabaretnam, who had earlier consented to offer a platform at Kartik Fine Arts for deserving candidates belonging to the Govt. Music Colleges.


Dr. Thangam Meganathan, Chairperson, Rajalakshmi Institutions, was appreciative of the private agencies' role in building up the cultural values in the society. She praised the award winning artistes for their hard work.


Another successful venture of Kartik Fine Arts in collaborating with Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFA), to hold exchange programmes in India and Singapore was lauded by Dr S T Kasinathan, Hony. Secretary, SIFA, a guest at the function.


Sri Rajagopal Sekhar, Secretary, Kartik Fine Arts honoured the artistes and the dignitaries on stage. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Vice-President of Kartik Fine Arts, Sri Narasimhan.


Sridevi from Jaya TV did a good work compering the event.


Dr Deepika Reddy gave a spectacular Kuchipudi performance later, with her sishyas.
