37th year Art festival 2011

Day 5

Welcome Readers.

At Kartik Fine Arts fest, 5th day saw a couple of good concerts by eminent vocalists.

The 1st one was of Isai Peroli Gayathri Venkatraghavan's. She mesmerised the rasikas with her sweet voice.

'Neranammithi', Kanada raga Ata tala varnam gave a vibrant start to her recital. Next was Gopalakrishna Bharathi's 'Sivalokanathanaikkandu' in Nadanamakriya, set to Roopaka ralam, with brief neraval and swarams.

Kartik Fine Arts members and the regular audience here had sumptuous Reethigowlai in the past few days! Both the vocalists had this raga on their list today too.

Dvaithamu sukhama in Reethigowlai followed. A quick and snappy Nenarunchi naanau in Malavi was enjoyable.

Now, its time for the main krithi of the concert. What a Kalyani! Gayathri's raga alapana was great. The krithi that followed was Dikshithar's heavenly, Bhajare rechita Balambika, sung beautifully. Akkarai Subbulakshmi's support on Violin for this Kalayani raga krithi was superb. Neraval and swaram at 'Devi shakthi.....matrkara shareerini' was captivating. Manoj Siva on the Mridangam and Anirudh Athreya on the Kanjira played a entertaining tani avarthanam at the end of this Misra Chapu tala krithi.

Gayathri wound up her concert with 'Muruganin maru perazhagu' in Behag after a virutham on Lord Muruga in Hindolam.

A perfectly planned concert enjoyed by the audience.

In the 2nd concert, Isai Peroli P. Unnikrishnan sang Sarasijanabha varnam and followed it with 'Vandheham jaya vallabham' in Hamsadhwani (Annamayya). The next was the soulful Siva siva siva ena radha in Pantuvarali. Unnikrishnan had majestic support on the Violin by Isai Peroli R K Sriramkumar.

The great percussionists on the stage lifted the concert to great levels - P Sathish Kumar on the Mridangam and Dr S Karthick on the Ghatam.

Two Swathi Thirunal krithis - Paripalayamam in Reethigowlai and Parama purusham in Vasantha, had place in the concert.

After a rapturous 'Marivere' of Patnam Subramania Iyer in Shanmugapriya, that was the main krithi of the concert and later the thani, Unnikrishnan sang Thikku theriyada kattil (Bharathiyar), Ninaikkaadha neram illai Muruga, Srichakraraja, Pullikkalaaba mayil vahan, (Kavadicchindu) and ended the concert that had a good variety.
