Mambalam sisters Smt.Chithra and Smt.Vijayalakshmi presented a very good concert at Kartik Fine Arts today.


They started their concert with a rare Varnam in the Ragam: Hameerkalyani set to Adi Talam. Composer :Sri T R Subramaniam.


Next "Subrahmanyena rakshitoham" in the Ragam Suddha Dhanyasi set to Adi Talam, a composition of Muttuswamy Dikshitar was sung neatly with Swara prastharam.


A Thyagaraja Keerthanam "Amma Raavamma" in Ragam Kalyani set to Khanda Chapu Talam was presented with Alapanam, niraval and swara prastharam with a little elaboration.


Popular keerthanams like "Chittham irangaathathu" in Ragam Sahana set to Misra Chapu Talam a composition of Papanasam Sivan and "Garuda gamana" in Ragam Nagaswaravali set to Rupaka Talam a composition of Pattanam Subramania Iyer were very appealing.


The main Ragam was Todi.." Koluva maregatha" set to Adi Talam a composition of Saint Thyagaraja,which was rendered with interesting niraval and swara prastharam followed by wonderful Thani Avarthanam by Vidwan Sri. P.Sathish Kumar and Vidwan Sri.B.Srisundara Kumar.


After rendering a Marathi Abhang in the Ragam Misra Sivaranjani they concluded the concert with a lively and famous Thillana in the Ragam Kunthalavarali set to Adi Talam. a composition of Dr. M.Balamuralikrishna.


They were very well accompanied by Vidwan Sri M A Krishnasway on the Violin.


Today's second concert was by Tamil Isai Vendar Sri Madurai T N Seshagopalan, who started the concert with a Varnam in the Ragam Sahana set to Adi Talam a composition of Tiruvotriyur Thyagayyar.


After the Varnam he sang evergreen "Vathapi" in the Ragam Hamsadhwani set to Adi Talam a composition of Muttuswamy Dikshitar. He sang yet another famous Krithi of Muttuswamy Dikshitar "Chandram bhaja manasa" in Ragam Asaveri set to Chatushra Jathi Matya Talam


"Sree Sankara guruvaram" in Ragam Nagaswaravali, composition of Mahavaidyanatha Iyer, "Entha muddo" in Ragam Bindumalini composition of Saint Thyagaraja and "Mayamma yani" in Ragam Ahiri a composition of Syama Sastri were beautifully rendered


The main Ragam Sankarabharam alapanam was very elaborate.. "swara raaga sudha" a composition of Saint Thyagaraja was rendered.. Thani aavarthanam was excellent by Vidwan Sri Vellore Ramabhadran on the mridangam and Vidwan H Sivaramakrishnan on the Ghatam.


Sri TNS concluded the concert by singing a Thiruppavai in the Ragam Suruti. He was well supported by Vidwan Sri M Chandrasekharan on the Violin.
