Rasikas enjoyed two grand concerts today at Narada Gana Sabha on the 8th day of the Music festival of Kartik Fine Arts.


Isai Chudar Vidwan Sri Sikkil C.Gurucharan commenced his concert with the well known Varnam "Eranapai" in the Ragam Todi set to Adi Talam



After singing the Keertanam "Marubalka" in the Ragam Sriranjani" Talam Adi a composition of Saint Thyagaraja. he started Raga alapanam in a very beautiful Ragam Bhavapriya and rendered "Unnai vendinen umapathe" set to Adi Talam.


"Brova vamma" was another beautiful krithi of Syama Shasthri rendered by Gurucharan in the Ragam Neelambari set to Misra Chapu Talam.


The main Ragam of the evening was Abheri, rendering of Ragam (alapanam) was wonderful...sang "Bhajare manasa" set to Adi Talam a composition of Mysore Vasudevacharya, both Niraval and swara prastharam were excellent followed by wonderful Thani Avarthanam by Vidwan Sri Thiruvarur Bhakthavatsalam on the Mridangam and Vidwan Sri Vaikam Gopalakrishnan on the Ghatam..


After singing 'Karpuram narumo" from Lasi Kolam by Nachiyar Thirumozhi in the Ragam Khamas set to Khanda Chapu Talam.. Gurucharan concluded the concert by singing a lively number "Radha sametha Krishna" in Ragam Yamankalyani set to Adi Talam.


Gurucharan was well supported by Vidwan Sri Mysore Srikanth on the Violin..


The second concert of the day was by Padmasri, Tamil Isai Vendar Smt Aruna Sairam.


She commenced the concert with "Sri valli deva senapathe" in the Ragam Natabhairavi set to Adi Talam a composition of Papanasam Sivan. She then sang "Rama bhakthi samrajyam" in the Ragam Suddha Bangala set to Adi Talam a composition of Saint Thyagaraja.



Ragam Lathangi was elaborated well and sang "Pirava varam Tarum" a composition of Papanasam Sivan set to Adi Talam with a brief Niraval and Swara prastharam after which she sang Alapanam in the Ragam Valaji and rendered a beautiful Krithi "Karthikeya kamaleshana" set to Adi Talam, Composer V V Srivathsa


"Rama namamu" in the Ragam Atana Talam Adi a composition of Saint Thyagaraja was very crisp.


She sang Bhairavi as the main Ragam for the evevning, elaborated the Ragam and chose to sing the famous Swarajathi of Syama Shathri " Sree Kamakshi" set to Misra Chapu Talam.. whole rendering was very enjoyable.. Excellent presentation of Thani avarthanam by Vidwan Sri P Sathish Kumar on the Mridangam and Vidwan Sri S V Ramani on the Ghatam.


Thukkadas like "Brindavanam" in the ragam Senjuruti and A Marathi Abhang were lively.


Concluded the concert with a Lullaby (Thalattu) in Ragamalika set to Adi Talam.


Smt. Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi gave excellent support on the Violin..


Both the concerts were well appreciated by the audience.
