36th year Art festival 2010 - 21th December, 2010
Ms. Shylaja along with her students of Shylasudha started her bharatanatyam recital with a Mallari in Ragam Gambira Nattai, Kannda Triputa Talam. This was followed by a Tirupallandu in Ragam Naga Nandini.
The next number was a varnam in praise of Goddess Abiram from Abirami Andhadhi. Poothavale bhuvanam was beautifully described. The eyes of Abirami showering all her blessings to devotees and protecting the Universe was well portrayed. Chanting the divine name of Abirami gives solace to the world. The sancharis were elaborately done and Shylaja did this as a solo piece.
She moved on next to Adiya Padam in Pantuvarali Ragam on Lord Shiva which was preceded by Kunitha puruvamum. This was performed along with her students. The singer Sri. Veera Raghavan, Nattuvangam Smt. SriLatha, Sri. Haribabu Mridangam and Sri. Ramanan on the flute provided good support. The verses of Abirami Andhadhi structured as a varnam was innovative.
